Having a tween girl is interesting. One minute they want to be treated like a teenager, and the next they’re playing with My Little Pony, so you never really know who you’re going to get. It’s literally like living with someone with a split personality. Ok, maybe that’s a little far, but still – it ain’t easy.
When I started working on Arianna’s new room I wanted to make it a little more grown up for her, but still keep the playfulness in it. Instead of having her pick everything, we created mood boards together which gave me a good sense of what she was looking for.
Here are few of the inspirations she liked....
On top of her list: A pink/purple color scheme (with a bit of other colors thrown in there for good measure). Her bedroom walls are a soft lilac color, so I focused on getting some pink and other fun colors to really punch up her room. I started with the bedspread which I found at Macy’s, and the scalloped night stand that I found at Target. For her accessories, I looked to PB Teen to add a bit of whimsy. Her room also had corner shelves from the previous owner, which my daughter liked so we decided to keep them and use an old teddy and Betsey Johnson cupcake bag to fill the space.
Another thing on her wishlist was to have a collage wall, so I picked up a few items from Hobby Lobby that I thought would work and tried to incorporate them with some stuff from her old room as well.
Lastly, she wanted to bring in a little glam. So I found her a chandelier floor lamp, sequin sheer panels to go with her two-tone pink blackout curtains, and a white tufted headboard to complete the look.
She was excited about the finish room so I’m happy I was able to fulfill her vision. The room isn’t 100% complete yet, but it’s getting there!
