Being a Mom is tough work. Between parent/teacher meetings, doctor’s appointments, extra-curricular activities, and making sure your child’s development is on track, there’s hardly any time spare to relax and take a yoga class, go shopping for the latest season’s footwear or dresses with a girlfriend, or just sit back and have a glass of wine.
Do you ever wish you had more energy to get through your hectic day? Well, you may not be able to press a magic button, but you’ll be glad to hear that there are a few superfoods around to give you an extra boost when you feel your eyelids are getting heavy.
1. Broccoli – This gorgeous green leafy vegetable isn’t everyone's favorite, but it’s packed full of detoxifying chemicals to help to clean out your system and can even prevent certain types of cancer. Broccoli also contains high amounts of Vitamin C for your immune system, making this unpretentious vegetable a true superfood.
If you’re not a fan of broccoli, try adding it to a pasta dish, or mixing it with a cheese sauce. Be sure not to overcook it though, as not only will it taste positively vile, but you can boil out the nutrients.
eggs? However you serve them (well, as long as they’re not fried) can help your body get the right amount of protein it needs to stay healthy. As we get older, it’s important to look after our bodies.
If you like to work out (good for you), be sure to add a pair of Pedag insoles into your running shoes, to protect your joints from impact. If you eat a healthy diet, starting the day with high protein eggs to strengthen your bones, and you exercise often, you’re far more likely to have the energy you yearn for when the afternoon comes around.
3. Sweet potatoes – This under-used root vegetable is not only delicious and makes a nice (and healthy) change from potatoes, but sweet potatoes are full of anti-inflammatory qualities, great for helping cure injuries.
If you’re the kind of person who can’t live without a large helping of carbs, then sweet potatoes could be your new best friend. Packing way less bad carbs than a regular potato and actually rich in vitamins, even McDonald’s is starting to experiment with this new in-demand superfood.
4. Yogurt – Delicious, sweet, a healthy treat… yogurt is pretty perfect in the right doses. You already know that calcium makes for healthy bones and helps prevent osteoporosis, but it also contains phosphorus which can boost tooth enamel and reduce wrinkles.
If you do have a family history of joint related diseases, like osteoporosis, or a chronic sporting injury, eating right and wearing the right footwear, such as sandals and clogs made by OOFOS, can be a great defense mechanism against illness.
5. Blueberries – Last, but definitely not least, blueberries are not only great for giving your body a good cleanse and detox, but this increasingly popular superfood may even have the power to fight against certain tumors as well. However you like them; fresh in a salad, baked in a pie, or mixed in a shake, be sure to include them in your diet today.
If you are what you eat, then you’d probably like to think you were well balanced and full of energy. So try incorporating these superfoods into your diet today, make sure you get at least 15-30 minutes of proper, vigorous exercise a day and you’ll soon feel like a whole new you.
