If there is one thing that my daughter shares with me, it’s a love of pasta. Angel hair, ziti, shells – you name it, we’ll eat it. Our love runs deep for the starchy food. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t share the same sentiment. So I usually have to reserve pasta dishes for when it’s just us girls. Granted, it’s not the “healthiest” of meals, but I believe you can enjoy everything in moderation. Especially pasta. No one should go through life depriving themselves of a big bowl of pasta, I mean, YOLO right?? So when Hillshire Farms asked me to create a recipe using their smoked sausage I knew exactly what I wanted to make. A creamy turkey sausage pasta with veggies!
Typically, I like to use chicken in my pasta, but I think turkey sausage is also makes a great alternative. It’s quick and easy and is a lighter choice than regular sausage. This particular recipe makes a great weeknight meal, because you can whip it up in minutes! Basically you bring together spaghetti, sausage, broccoli, onion, mixed peppers, butter, parmigiano, and the cream sauce of your choice. I personally like vodka sauce, but you can use whatever is in your pantry.
Start by boiling your pasta and prepping your veggies. Slice the turkey sausage into small sections and pan fry with a little butter in non-stick skillet along with the veggies. Once cooked add your cream sauce and let it simmer, stirring occasionally. Set aside. Once your pasta is cooked, drain and mix in the sausage, veggies, and sauce. Plate it with some parmigiano and parsley. And that’s it! Buon appetito!
