The Easiest Fool-Proof Cat-Eye Tutorial, Ever!!

Damn you cat-eye. I've attempted you hundreds of times and I can never get you right. Mastering the skills of the cat-eye look has been my Achilles heel for as long as I can remember. It takes a steady hand and a lot of patience--two things that I unfortunately do not have. womp womp.

Then I stumbled upon this genius video tutorial from the hair pin that literally teaches you the EASIEST way to get the perfect cat-eye every. single. time. I'm not messing with you. I tried it over the weekend and I actually had the perfect cat-eye for the FIRST TIME!!!!

The secret is scotch-tape, who knew! Although I wouldn't recommend putting tape around your eyes everyday--I think it's definitely something that you can do, if you're like me and want to do it every once in a while.

  11. I just watched a video about 5 minutes ago on the importance of not pulling at sensitive eye skin while applying eyeliner. It brings wrinkles on, girls! This tape trick is freaking me out!

I really don't want to burst any bubbles, it just worries me. Be careful with yourselves!

    1. That's why you stick the tape to your clothes first before applying to your eye so the tape isn't as sticky. You're using the tape as a ruler.

  12. The trick is placing the tape right...

  13. News flash: You will age. You will wrinkle. You will sag. To what degree is really up to genetics - not really much else. It is inevitable, embrace it, challenge yourself to do it gracefully.

With tutorials like this, you can do it beautifully. PS- she tells you to remove some of the tack.

  18. Or you could just use the straight edge of a business card, which also happens to work for protecting the upper and lower lid from stray mascara during application. :)

  19. artist masking tape is much less sticky, i'd try with that first. Also after some practice with this technique, i'm sure you would get to know where the lines should be without using the tape.

  20. Wouldn't hair tape, the kind they use for pincurls on the face be better then scotch tape. There is also a low sick paper tape that is meant for easy removal from paper that might be better. I wouldn't put regular tape on my eyes. The skin is way to sensitive.

  22. Just genius! I have been trying to do this look for a while now and have only managed to look like a zombie. Thanks for the help!

  23. EVERYONE STOP!!! Yea it looks great but why is no one else concerned about the tape on your eyes!!!
The eyes have extremely delicate skin- putting tape on and pulling it off throws off the elasticity and you will end up with wrinkles.

    WOMEN- PLEASE critically think!!!

    1. Before the video I wrote that I don't recommend putting tape around the eyes every day and it should only be used once in awhile. It's a trick to just get used to perfecting the cat-eye, that's all. Once you're used to it you won't need a template. Also, removing some of the tack on the tape like the video shows makes it easier on the eyes.

  26. I think this is a great idea. I do have to say though, it astounds me how many people just do not listen and are freaking out about some darn tape. Not to mention there are various types of tape that are less tacky & won't pull as much. As a previous poster said, we're all gonna wrinkle, it's genetics, not tape! (-:

  28. This is literally the best thing I've ever seen. I just bought liquid liner for the first time (I typically use pencil) and was wondering how I might go about applying it without getting ink all over my face. I definitely intend to try this tutorial. Thanks for sharing!

  30. For all the people who keep saying the tape is too rough on the eye, I totally agree, I worked in optical for years. However, the tape can easily be replaced with a post it note which has much less adhesive. The idea is great and I'm not certain but I don't think a post it will take off makeup. This is definately my new go to way of putting my eyeliner on!
