Happy Birthday To Me!! & 10 Things I Would Tell My 12yr Old Self.

Today is my Birthday!! Although we've pretty much been celebrating it since Friday night. (That's right, a whole birthday weekend, just for me! That's how I roll.) Friday night the hubs took me to The Cheesecake Factory because I felt like pigging out indulging on some pasta and cheesecake. (The Pasta da Vinci is da bomb yo.) I dream about that pasta just so you know. :)

On Saturday, my mini me and I had a little girls day and went to the salon to get our hair did and then out for some lunch. She got her hair cut in layers for the first time and it looks absolutely adorable on her! I'll take some pics and show you guys soon.

I'm not sure what my family has in store for me today, but I did wake up to hugs and kisses--so I can't ask for anything more. As you get older you start appreciating the little things instead of the frivolous things you thought were important not too long ago. When it just comes down to it, I've been blessed with another year of life and more time to spend with the ones I love.

I recently read this post from Mama Locs (10 things I would tell my 12yr old self) and got me thinking of how differently my life as turned out from what I thought it was going to be. 12 seems ages ago! I had so much to learn then, (and not that I have everything figured out now), but if I could shed a bit of wisdom, I would tell myself...

10 Thing I Would Tell My 12yr Old Self:

  1. Don’t worry. That horrible haircut your mom gave you will grow out. (Just make sure to burn the photos later.)
  2. Be who you are and not what you think the people around you want you to be.
  3. It’s not love. You’re 12.
  4. Your brothers are not as annoying as you think they are. Believe it or not you’ll actually enjoy spending time with them later.
  5. You’re smarter than you think. Never forget that.
  6. Jonathan Taylor Thomas will grow up to be weird-looking and short. Stop doodling his name all over your notebooks.
  7. A little conditioner might help. Just sayin’.
  8. You’re pretty no matter what flaws you see in the mirror.
  9. Listen to your mother. She’ll start making a lot more sense to you later.
  10. “Don’t be in such a rush to be ‘grown’. Being grown ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

What would you tell your 12 year old self?

  1. Happy Birthday!! I would tell myself that even though you hate those braces now, you'll be happy you had them later.

  3. I love birthdays, and agree you should celebrate for way more than one day. I agree with number 10, and I'm sure I'll be saying the same thing to my boys, and I'm sure they won't listen.
