L'Oreal Sublime Mousse Review.

Ladies, our dreams have finally come true....

Coloring your hair can literally be as easy as applying shampoo!!! Last night I was fortunate enough to try L'Oreal's New Sublime Mousse in Light Chestnut Brown. It was so fast and easy, and a complete change from what I'm use to with traditional hair dye.

Can you imagine a world where your hair dye doesn't drip or you don't have to do the tedious task of parting and sectioning your hair? Sounds too good to be true? Well maybe not. Sublime Mousse by Healthy Look just might be what you're looking for....

I gotta say--as someone who is notorious for constantly changing their hair color, I was a little nervous to see how Sublime Mousse would hold up. I have very thick long hair and often times one box of hair color won't do, but I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to cover my entire hair with just the product provided.

Inside the box:
  • colorant
  • developer
  • detached foaming pump
  • healthy shine conditioner
  • gloves and instructions.

The first step is to mix in the the colorant and developer as usual, but instead of shaking the bottle, you actually have to ROTATE it gently. (I'm not sure what happens if you shake it but directions clearly state not to.) Once the product is mixed in it will dispense like foam. You start by putting the foam and your hand and then transfer it to your hair. It will start creating a mousse-like texture and the more you mix it in the thicker it gets. You lather it on you're entire hair like if you were shampooing, and 30mins later you wash it off. Sounds simple enough, right?

(For those of you who are not use to coloring your hair at home or for those of you who would like to see a a demo first, L'Oreal actually has a really great instructional video that was very helpful before applying, so be sure to check that out.)

In the end, the color was a little darker than I expected, (as you can see on the left), but I think that something that might lighten as times goes by.

The picture on the right is to show you the back of my hair and how long it is. (For some reason the color looks lighter in this pic, but in real life it looks more like the pic on the left.)

Overall, I think it's an alright hair dye. If I would have to rate it--I would give it a solid c. I think it needs little work on the coverage, and might work best for people who are trying to stay in their natural color range or who want to cut down on the hair dying process.

I think, it took me a total of 10mins to lather up my hair when it normally take me 30-35mins with traditional hair dyes. So you people with short/thin hair will probably do it in even less time!

Also, another high note is that the hair dye doesn't have a harsh ammonia smell like most do, and their healthy shine conditioner smelled wonderful!! It also gives you just enough that you can continue to use it for a few more washes.

Again, for me, I could've used a little better coverage, especially for those stubborn gray hairs (shh, don't tell anyone) but everyone's hair is different and I would definitely tell you to give it a try and see if this is the magical formula you've been waiting for.

UPDATE: Here's a $3 coupon you can use on L'Oreal Sublime Mousse by Healthy Look.

Have you tried it yet? What did you think?

  4. Tried it too and agree to stay near your own colour. It did cover all my grays (used number 50 btw) but it turned out a little darker and has un unexpected reddish shine to it. I kinde like it, I used it to cover up my greys, or rather whites. My natural colour is deep dark cool brown. I would use again, perhaps a different colour.

  5. Who paid you to write this? Most of the reviews on this product are negative. This is a horrible product that not only does NOT color your hair but dries it out.

  6. At Anonymous April 4--Just because it worked for her doesn't mean someone paid her to use it! Everyone's hair is different and what works for YOU might not work for someone else and vice versa.

    Thanks for your review!

  7. I just tried this. I bought light brown shade, but it made my hair dark dark brown. I'm very disappointed with this product.

  8. My hair color was around 50, I bought 62 because I've read the reviews on how this tends to make the hair darker... It's more like 30 now, I can't believe how dark it is... And it made my hair so dry I'm afraid to color it again, I'm stuck with this hair color until I can feel confident that a new dye job won't ruin it further :(

  9. I love this stuff! I've used many dyes and this one was the quickest and easiest. I feel it compares well to what I was getting at the salon and it was nice to be able to do it myself quickly. I have coarse long hair and I found it to be a little dry when I was done blowdrying it but once I added my normal styling products my hair was shiny and "normal". The first dye I bought was a little too dark so I went down a shade and it is perfect now. I absolutely love this stuff...I've always used Loreal hair dyes and this one is by far my favorite because of how easy it is to apply. My next favorite is Loreal Feria which did leave my hair quite a bit softer but it takes longer to apply and is way more work to apply.

  10. I bought the Spicy Auburn Brown Mousse today. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Yes, I agree that the foam part was impressive but the color washes right out. It did absolutely NOTHING. I am just hoping that since it didn't color my hair like it says it would, I hope at least it doesnt destroy my hair. Highly NOT recommended!

  11. I bought shade No60, of course it came out darker but I was sort of expecting that anyway!

    THE GOOD:
It's extremely easy to use and you can't make a mess in the bathroom which is a plus! Easy and fun to apply. Nice color (it gets a bit lighter after shampooing a couple of times)and quick application.

    THE BAD:
As many have mentioned, this is hair dye is quite drying. I can feel the difference in my hair. Also, it seems that the conditoiner that comes with this dye has a different formula than the one that comes with EXCELLENCE for example (which I think is way better btw) and it isn't as moisturizing :(

Overall it's a nice hair dye, but there is deffinitely room for improvement. I probably will buy this again because with this I can dye my hair on my own.

  12. REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCT! I will ALWAYS use foam! I was afraid it would not cover because I am old school, but it did BETTER than gloppy dyes or cremes. LOVE this product. -Easy to apply (my hair is shoulder length) -Great coverage (I will leave it on my greys longer next time) -Washes out easy -No mess whatsoever -Color is great, and very true to box. I have medium brown hair and used Spicy Auburn Brown. Left it on for 25 minutes, like the package said. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only neg thing I can think of is that my hair felt a bit dry after I was done, but I am 44 yrs. old, so my hair is getting a bit brittle with age. Don't be afraid to try it. I can't understand all the neg reviews??????
