I Need Lip Advice For My Daughter

So my daughter has been blessed with some juicy lips but a long with that juiciness comes the down side. Her lips are ALWAYS dry! I c-o-n-s-t-a-n-t-l-y have to put chapstick on her in order for her not to look like she's been scaling down the side of Mt. Everest for days without water! It seems to be genetic condition because my hubby tells me that he was the same way as a kid.

I've tried LOTS of treatments and ointments and let me tell you something--my daughter's lip product collection can rival any grown woman's, but somehow they don't do what they promise or don't last very long or just an overall disappointment. It seems like the classics like vaseline, carmex, and gently brushing lips with a toothbrush (which I've been doing since I was kid) are always the best solution.

I'm still trying to find that PERFECT magical lip product that will make her lips silky smooth. Do you know of one?? Let me know please!

  1. Have you tried Aveeno?

  2. First of all; she's dehydrated. Our lips are what tell us whether or not we need more water. I had REALLY dry lips and hands when I was little and my mom would give me a TALL glass of water, and not let me go play until I drank the whole thing (several times a day). My skin become soft and supple and I had no more dry, cracked, and bleeding lips/hands! So give her WATER (not juice, not milk, not soda) and make her drink several tall glasses a day, even if she protests and whines about it, like I did (I would look at the glass and think it was utterly impossible to drink it all).

Also, try Oi-Lin brand of lip stuff - it's PH balanced (unlike other chapsticks), doesn't clog the pores, and is the best I've ever used! My mom's lips get chapped and peely for weeks if she uses anything but Oi-Lin:

  3. Katie, I haven't tried Aveeno yet. I'll give it a try, thanks. I'm hoping it's better than their lotions though because I really don't like those...

Breeana, my daughter really has no problem with drinking water. She loves it! I'll try to give her even more and see if that helps, thanks.

  4. Have you tried Burts Bees? Or making your own made up of calendula, shea butter, vitamin e, handset in beeswax? It's easier (WAY), than it sounds...if you are interested I could tell you how! Glad to have found you through MBC.

  6. Try Blistex - the one in the squeezable tube - it is awesome! It soaks into your lips like a lotion and makes the chapped feeling go away fast.

  7. I use Yes To Carrots Lip Butter (@ target) and it's organic. You don't have to put a ton on, and leaves them really soft. I used this on my son when he was smaller... you know how babies sleep with their mouths open...

  8. I've tried Blistex before. I don't like it. It's one of those chapsticks that you put on and looks fine..2 seconds later her lips are chapped again.
